Analysis of adhesive-bonded single-lap joint with an interfacial crack and a void

چکیده
void within the adhesive. Depending upon the number of notches and voids, the specimen is divided into several regions. Assuming that a plane strain state of deformation prevails in the specimen, we write the balance of forces and moments for each section and impose the continuity of displacements, forces and moments at the interfaces between the adjoining sections. By taking the Laplace transform of the resulting ordinary differential equations we get a system of simultaneous linear algebraic equations that can be easily solved. The inverse transform of the solution of the algebraic equations provides stresses and displacements in the adhesive and the substrates, which are found to agree well with those obtained by the finite element method (FEM). It is also found that the order of the stress singularity at the corner of the free surface of the adhesive and the substrate, and the strain energy release rate computed from the solution of the problem with the FSDT agree well with those determined from the solution of the problem by the FEM. We note that the computational effort required to analyze the problem with the FSDT is considerably less than that needed to solve the problem by the FEM. & 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Analytical Solution of Stress Field in Adhesively Bonded Composite Single-Lap Joints Under Mechanical Loadings
In this paper, considering an adhesively bonded composite single-lap joint, a novel approach is presented to predict the peel and shear stress distributions of the adhesive layer for an ASTM standard test sample. In current method, the equilibrium equations are derived using the energy method and based on the Timoshenko’s beam theory. Two solution procedures then are discussed, one of which rep...
متن کاملViscoelastic analysis of stress distribution in balanced and unbalanced adhesively bonded single-lap joints with functionally graded adherends under the Reddy model
In this study, shear and peel stress distributions in the viscoelastic adhesive layer of a single-lap joint (SLJ) with functionally graded (FG) adherends are investigated. The study focuses on the effect of different adherend profiles and material composition on the time-dependent stress concentration/distribution in balanced and unbalanced SLJs. For this purpose, the Reddy model is applied to ...

In this study, analytical models considering different material and geometry for both single and double-lap bolted joints were reviewed for better understand how to select the proper model for a particular application. The survey indicades that the analytic models selected for the adhesively single or double bolted lap joints, as well as T, scarf, and stepped joints, with linear material pr...
متن کاملDynamic response of adhesively bonded single-lap joints with a void subjected to harmonic peeling loads
The only viable method to join some components is by using adhesives. These components are often subjected to dynamic loading, which may cause initiation and propagation of failure in the joint. In order to ensure the reliability of these structures, their dynamic response and its variation with the presence of defects in the bonded area must be understood. The dynamic response of a single-lap ...
متن کاملExperimental and Analytical Investigations of the Dynamic Response of Adhesively Bonded Single Lap Joints
Dynamic response of single lap joints, subjected to a harmonic peeling load is studied theoretically and experimentally. In the theoretical part, dynamic response of a single lap joint clamped at one end and subjected to a harmonic peeling load at the other end is investigated. Adherents are modeled as Euler-Bernouli beams joined in the lap area by a viscoelastic adhesive layer. Both axial and ...
